With the police tightening its grip on underworld criminals, five policemen were questioned recently on suspicion of having dealings with hardcore criminals, a senior police official, said recently. Over 400 underworld leaders have moved to the cooler and quieter climes in order to evade the police, CDB Director Bandula Wickremasinghe said. “ Nuwara Eliya Police recently took into custody two hard core criminals Thadi Bala, Maligawatte Abdul Razik and two others. All of them have been handed over to the CDB for questioning. Investigations revealed that Thadi Bala while purchasing weapons from the LTTE had been responsible in giving information regarding movements of VIPs in the Colombo city,” local newspapers reported.
