At a joint meeting with the working committee, the UNP yesterday decided that when consensus between the two main parties is reached, the draft constitutional reforms should be placed before the Maha Sangha, general public and other parties concerned before presenting it to parliament, sources said. A resolution was adopted in this regard that the government’s delay so far to place before the clergy matters, which had reached a consensus had given rise to uncertainty in the minds of the general public, UNP sources said. The party decided they would attend the constitutional talks in the future, but would not support to rush through a new constitution through the present parliament.
