Local potato farmers get good price
[01 September 2000]

An additional surcharge has been imposed on the import of potatoes in order that it will be subjected to an overall duty ratio of around 80 percent, effective from yesterday, August 31, sources said.

This surcharge has been imposed in order that the total Customs Duty ratio will be 80 percent with the present 35 percent plus the 6.5 percent Defence Levy.

This directive will take effect by Gazette notification No.1147/12 issued on August 30 by the General Treasury.

The government has taken this decision in order to give local potato cultivators a good price for their produce at a time when harvesting is taking place.
