Navy launches locally built attack craft

FAST ATTACK CRAFT
The Sri Lanka Navy launched an inshore patrol craft at a cost of Rs.7 million, built locally by the engineers and technical staff of the Navy, at Naval Headquarters, Welisara, recently.

The attack craft, which was, built within a period of five to six months would have cost around 17 million if imported, but the expenditure incurred to build this craft locally was Rs.7 million.

Speaking at the official launch of the craft, General Anuruddha Ratwatte, Minister of Electricity, Energy and Deputy Minister of Defence said that our country is an island and the navy will take every possible step to safeguard our land. 

It is a pleasure to provide all raw materials needed to build such crafts, the Minister said.

Nine other such attack crafts are to be built locally, sources said.
