Two main Tamil parties contesting in Jaffna are reported to be engaged in a dispute over banners and posters. TULF General Secretary V.V. Anandasangari yesterday had alleged that rival EPDP had hung a banner outside their party headquarters in Jaffna. He also charged that this act was done to provoke his party and has written to the EPDP leadership to have the banner removed immediately. Mr. Anandasangari said that the provocative acts could lead to unpleasant incidents and asked how there could be incident free elections if intimidation and provocation were allowed. "There have been incidents over the last fortnight and supporters of various parties have been killed. He further alleged that EPDP leaflets were being distributed by Government officials at checkpoints. He urged the authorities to step in to ensure that election laws are observed. Mr. S. Sivadasan, former MP spokesman for the EPDP said that the banner was strung across the street and was not encroaching TULF property, nor did it hinder the TULF in any way. "Mr. Anandasangari is making a mountain of a molehill, because he knows that his party has no chance."
