Amid LTTE threats of disrupting the forthcoming general election in Jaffna District, security officials report that sufficient strength is available to hold the election in the district. “ We have sufficient strength to provide additional security to the election,” SSP Upali Gunasekera in charge of Jaffna District, said yesterday. According to Army officials who quoted the Tiger radio transmissions, LTTE leadership wanted its pistol group to confuse the normal life in the city so that they would be able to stop the troops attempt on recapturing Chavakachcheri. Fourteen political parties and eight independent groups submitted their nominations for Jaffna District, amid falling LTTE shells to Chundikuli area.
