President directs interim allowance increase

President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga has directed that an interim allowance of 10 percent increase, subject to a minimum of Rs.1000 (inclusive of Rs.600 currently in force) be paid to all public servants.

She has also directed that a 10 percent monthly increase subject to a minimum of Rs.500 (inclusive of Rs.300 currently in force) be paid to all pensioners with effect from 1^st October, 2000 pending the implementation of the Tissa Devendra Salaries Commission recommendations.
