LTTE child soldier tells all

On September 5, a 14-year-old female LTTE cadre was captured by troops in Muhavil, Colombuthurai, the Special Media Information Centre, said.

Renuga Ilewanar the 14-year-old child soldier from Mulangavil in Wanni says that she was taken away by the LTTE on May 13, 1998 when she was a grade 7 student at Akkarayan MMV. Further, she added that she was given a one-month training and was sent to the battlefield. She has suffered minor injuries and is presently being treated by the Army doctors.

In Colombuthurai, on the same day, troops confronted a LTTE double cab and tractor destroying both with RPGs.

During the day, troops recovered 30 T56 weapons, 5 RPG weapons, 1 MPMG weapon, 1 GPMG weapon, 1 40mm grenade launcher, 2 communication sets and a large quantity of military items during the day which were left behind by the fleeing terrorists.

At present, troops are consolidating the newly captured areas and are in the process of constructing defences.

In another incident at Chemmani on September 5, troops engaged a group of terrorists, killing one.

On September 5 around 11 am at Kiran, Alavathurai Pushparaja an 18-year-old LTTE cadre of Navalady, Kallady surrendered to the Kiran Army detachment.

A Ground Attack aircraft of the Sri Lanka Air Force engaged identified Sea Tiger locations in Veditalativu today in the morning.
