The Elections Department would be inviting official monitors, to begin a massive polls watch, during the October elections. While, those invited by other groups would be mainly working on an unofficial basis, Department sources said. Two foreign monitors invited by a local group are due today. These two monitors would be more on the technical side, while there are more arriving from the United States, Europe and Asia, Kingsley Rodrigo, Executive Director of the People’s Action Front for Free and Fair Elections (PAFFREL), said. Meanwhile, the Centre for Monitoring Election Violence reported that monitors invited by them from groups including Article IX and the Human Rights Watch were expected in the coming weeks.
