Protest against Kumar Ponnambalam’s stamp in Canada
[07 September 2000]

The Canadian government is planning to issue a stamp in honour of Kumar Ponnambalam and Sri Lankans in Canada are opposing its release, sources said.

Opposition is raised on the grounds that the ACTC leader Kumar Ponnambalam is a well-known international lobbyist for the LTTE.

In their protest letter addressed to the Prime Minister of Canada, the Attorney General and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that such a stamp is an indirect Canadian promotion of violence and hatred between the majority Sinhalese and the minority Tamils.
