JVP’s five year plan manifesto presented
[07 September 2000]

The Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) presented its five-year plan to develop the country at a media briefing held at the Sri Lanka Foundation Institute, recently.

The right to life and other such related rights had been for the first time taken up in a party manifesto in the JVP five year plan, S S Wijeyratne, Attorney-at-Law, Legal Advisor to UNHCR, said.

However, some sections of the Universal Charter of Human Rights could have been included in the plan, he said.

Film Director, Vasantha Obeysekera commenting on the five-year plan said he hoped that the JVP would work for the benefit of the country and not only for the political party that they represent. He believed that the forthcoming election was a very crucial one and commended the plan presented by the JVP.
