The Police Election Secretariat yesterday announced that a program will be launched to educate the candidates and regional political leaders regarding Election Laws with a view to control the escalating political violence throughout the country. Meanwhile, all ranks in DIGs departments have already been educated to maintain law and order during the political period under the directions of IGP Kodituwakku. The election violence watchdog, PAFFEREL said yesterday they have already received 25 elections related complaints. "These are only the incidents reported to us. The actual number may be much higher," spokesman Kingsley Rodrigo said. Meanwhile, all police stations in the country were directed to employ a person paid by the Police headquarters to remove banners and cut-outs, which has turned out to be a great success. Cut-outs and posters are permitted only at the venue of a political propaganda meeting which must be immediately removed soon after the meeting. According to the Election Laws processions and motorcades are not allowed during the Election period, Director, Police Election Secretariat Senior SP Raban said.
