Minister Fowzie told yesterday that the Cabinet should take actions against Ashraff in the first place for the derogatory comments made by him regarding the Wayamba elections. According to Minister Fowzie, Ashraff has stated that, the entire Cabinet was behind thuggery, intimidation and violence at Wayamba, and he would never contest under PA. The sources said that Minister Fowzie was in opinion that if Ashraff went alone at the next election the SLMC would be reduced to zero, with him finding to retain 60,000 preferences he received in 1994. According to the sources the development on Thursday night illustrated the SLMC attempt to request the PA for another national list post. SLMC sources stated that they are planning to send a former SLMC MP as an envoy to meet the PA leadership with regard to this matter. Whereas PA sources stated that are not in need of Ashraffs alliance in the Colombo district as the PA has enough strong candidates to get the required number for the national list issues.
