Nearly fifty foreign monitors from various international Non-Governmental Organisations will be here within next week to observe the forth-coming general elections. They are invited by the People's Action for Free and Fair Elections (PAFFREL). Among the international organisations sending election monitors here are the National Democratic Institute for International Affairs in USA, Asian Network of Elections, Asian Youth Centre and the Sri Lanka Human Rights Activists Group in Washington, said PAFFREL's Executive Director Kingsley Rodrigo. Meanwhile PAFFREL plans to deploy around 12,000 local monitors in 20 districts. Committees at district level have been set up to brief them on how they should go about their work.
