The Foreign Minister Lakshman Kadirgarmar told at an interview held by India Abroad News Service, as Sri Lankan and Indian relationship is now being governed by "absolute candour and mutual trust" it couldn't be better. He further stated that, sympathy for the separatist LTTE in some quarters in Tamilnadu and the rebel-supported politicians like Marumalarchi Dravida Mennetra Kazahagam [MDMK] are insignificant. He clearly stated that Indo Sri Lankan relationship has bee candid over the years without any pussyfooting. Minister stated that his relationship with the Indian Foreign Minister Jaswant Singh is very flexible as he can openly discuss any matter openly, and same applies for the heads of states in both the countries. The disappearance of suspicious feeling of the BJP party led coalition government being supported towards the LTTE has made Sri Lanka satisfied and relieved. The Minister stressed that " Very strong statement made about the impossibility of having a separate state in Sri Lanka and New Delhi will never countenance that." Sri Lanka clearly gave out the consequences of a separate state in the island will be incalculable for the Indian Union, which has well survived over 50 years. With regard to Tamilnadu he said " from time to time you will find statements made by some people ― certainly some of the fringe organisations like the PMK [Pattali Makkal Katchi]― which don't have a great deal for mass support." He finally stated that, "As far as (arms) supplies coming from India (for LTTE), it is a huge coast line and it's totally impossible for Centre or Tamilnadu (government) itself to provide adequate surveillance for the whole coastline."
