The
new political party, Sihala Urumaya released their election
manifesto on Tuesday morning, pledging a healthy and wealthy nation with
its proposals on the structure of the State, economic and the agriculture
sectors of the country. Speaking
during the launch of their manifesto, the Sihala Urumaya said that the
LTTE must be crushed militarily. "So
far all governments have been genuflecting before the needs of the Tamils
and the Muslims while the Sinhlaese are faced with the threat to their
existence as a people," Deputy President Prof. A.D.V. De S.
Indraratne said. "Protecting
the integrity of the country, having a strong economic system,
facilitating agriculture and encouraging local businessmen in the
development of industries are our main aims," said Kamal Deshapriya.
The spokesman further said that keeping the country on war-footing,
importing new weapons and providing a new leadership which could conduct
the war, while developing the country's economy are some of the salient
points in their manifesto. The
General Secretary of the party, Thilak Karunaratne explaining the party's
policies on the abolishing of bribery and corruption said that they would
stop the provision of all luxury items to ministers and parliamentarians
and appoint officers to0 the judiciary, armed forces, police and public

institutions. On
the country's national economy, the Sihala Urumaya intends to reintroduce
a concessionary pricing system in respect of paddy, fertilizers,
pesticides and other agricultural inputs, with the payment of a minimum
guaranteed price of Rs. 15.00 per kilo of paddy. Milk production will be
encouraged and all imports of milk will be stopped once the country is
self -sufficient. Indiscriminate imports of rice, vegetables, potatoes,

by cowing to the First World dictates on globalization and that they
intend to cancel all international trade agreements detrimental to
national interests, including the agreements with India, which they say
are harmful to the country's economy. All agreements with multi-national
