The UNP told at a meeting held with business community, that they are willing to work with the likely hostile President, after party comes to office at the next General Election. An apparel exporter and a leading private sector lobbyist Lyn Fernando raised this issue. More than 300 representatives attended the forum from the private sector. As Ranil Wickramasinghe answered most of the questions, and requested Anura Bandaranaike to respond. According to the sources, the closed-door meeting revealed that UNP is willing work within the powers of the current constitution and with the President. To clearly elaborate the case he had brought forward the situation in France prevalent with a Democratic President and a Republican Congress. "Even if the President becomes hostile, we will conduct our powers with the strength of the parliament under the shadow of the present constitution," said Mr. Bandaranaike. With the impressive presentation made by the Opposition leader Ranil Wickramasinghe and economic advisor Milinda Moragoda, the business community too assured UNP that they are the credible winners of the forth-coming elections and questioned UNP whether their capabilities have reached the masses. Responding to the matter UNP General Secretary Gaminie Athukorala and a member Rukman Senanayake stated that their campaign has started early and it will be more reinforced in the coming weeks and latest sources reveal that people are in need of a change and it is towards UNP.
