Nine people were killed today when a Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF) helicopter crashed at Kumarakanda in Aranayake. It is suspected that A H M Ashraff Minister of Ports and Rehabilitation was in the helicopter at the time of the incident. The nine bodies that were recovered were badly burnt and police were unable to identify them. Some arms allegedly belonging to the Security Forces were also recovered, burnt along with the bodies, sources revealed. While the death of Minister Ashraff is not yet confirmed, sources reveal that he left Colombo today morning by helicopter. Aranayake police are conducting further investigations into the incident.
