Courtesy- Daily News The Special Branch of the Police had warned of a possible attempt on the life of Minister Ashraff and just days prior to his death. The warning gave details of an intended attack on Ministers Mangala Samaraweera and M.H.M. Ashraff by two LTTE suicide bombers. The attack was to be made at hitherto unknown locations on Colombo or the suburbs. It states that the LTTE hierarchy intend to send two suicide bombers (male and female) to Trincomalee by boat and then on to Colombo by public transport. The intelligence report also states that the two bombers had been taught Sinhala at an LTTE camp located close to the Redd Barna Office in Vishvamadhu in the Wanni. Although the Air Force headquarters has ruled out the possibility of sabotage or an LTTE missile attack, the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC) has called on the Government to conduct a full investigation. It is believed that the identity of one passenger has still not been established. This has led to speculation that he may have denoted a bomb in the helicopter. These reports have heightened concern for the safety of Minister Samaraweera.
