SLMC decided to appoint Rauf Hakeem and Fariel Ashraff as co-leaders of the party. At a meeting held at Temple Trees yesterday with the President, Mr. Hakeeem had stated that party has decided to field the late minister’s widow Fariel Ashraff in late minister’s place to contest in the forthcoming polls on 10 October and he was not sure of her consent on the matter. After the immediate contact made by the President she had agreed to the suggestion. The minister's wife has also been appointed as the leader of the National Unity Alliance. The joint leader of SLMC Mr. Hakeem pledged to support PA at the meeting held yesterday at Temple Trees between the President and him. Sources confirmed that the two-hour meeting successfully ended with the President agreeing to take necessary steps to resolve past misunderstandings between SLMC and PA. Mr. Hakeem also told the President one of the last wishes of late Minister Ashraff, is to construct the highway between Kalmuani and Akkaraipattu. The President immediatly engaged in the matter and made necessary arrangements to implement the plan. The President while paying a glowing tribute to the late leader of SLMC conveyed that the party would remain vibrant, despite the great loss of late leader Minister M H M Ashraff.
