A UNP candidate from the Batticaloa district yesterday revealed that the UNP is getting permission from the LTTE to campaign in uncleared areas confirming reports about alleged UNP-LTTE links. UNP candidate Mr. S. Mamangarajah said that they will cross over into these areas after obtaining the Ministry of Defence approval. Reacting to news about PA candidate Mr. Ganeshamoorthy Ras leaving Batticaloa after LTTE threats, he that was not aware of any incident and that UNP campaigning is functioning smoothly without any such threats. However, Ganeshamoorthy Ras commented that this is a clear evidence of an UNP-LTTE link. "The Tigers are helping the UNP campaign," he accused, saying that none of them can no longer deceive the people. "Our supporters are lying low as they are aware of the LTTE's terror tactics. But they will give a fitting reply on October 10 and return the PA to power". "The Tamil people had placed their confidence in President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga and her devolution proposals", he added.
