Kandy district UNP candidate Keheliya Rambukwella and a group of his supporters attacked the Kandy Police headquarters and threatened the Headquarters Inspector (HQI) on Saturday sources revealed. Members of a gang of thugs and two persons dismissed by the police were among the UNP supporters. Kandy ASP said that shots had to be fired in the air and baton charges were made to disperse the unruly crowd. Keheliya Rambukwella, Central Provincial Opposition Leader and Kandy district UNP candidate told that the assault on Headquarters Inspector took place in his presence. He also said that he could not identify the persons who had assaulted HQI.
