Aranayake police looking for black box

Amid investigations into the helicopter crash which killed Minister Ashraff and 14 others at Urakanda Mountain, Police are still trying to recover the black box of the Mi 17 helicopter.

According to Aranayake Police, some villagers had recovered some parts of the helicopter, yesterday. However, Airforce officials had ruled out the possibility of the parts being that of the black box.

At present, the Air Force has requested the assistance of the general public specially those living around Urakanda, Kumarapura, Aranayake, to help recover the black box.

This box contains a machine to record data of the flight of the helicopter (FDR) and another machine to record conversation with pilots (CDR). This black box is required to arrive at reasons for the plane crash.
