Commemoration ceremony of the 41st death anniversary of late Premier S.W.R.D. Bandaranaike

President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga pays floral tributes at the Bandaranaike Samadhi at the commemoration of the 41st death anniversary of late Prime Minister S.W.R.D. Bandaranaike at Horagolla.

A ceremony was held yesterday to mark the 41st death anniversary of Prime Minister S. W. R. D. Bandaranaike at the Bandaranaike Samadhi, Horagolla.

The ceremony at 8.15 in the morning following a line up of a religious ritual. 

The Commemoration song was sung by a bevy of girls and boys from Sanghabodhi Vidyalaya Nittambuwa. Cadets of the Sangabodhi Vidyalaya and Bandaranaike Vidyalaya Gampaha stood guard during the ceremony. 

Two minutes' silence was observed as a mark of respect to the late leader. Two policemen blew a bugle followed by a salute in honour of the late Mr.Bandaranaike. 

Members of the Bandaranaike family offered 'atapirikara' to the Maha Sangha. Then former Prime Minister Sirimavo Bandaranaike and children Sunethra and Anura placed floral tributes at the Samadhi. 

President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga had paid homage to the Samadhi earlier. 

Relatives, Cabinet Ministers, Deputy Ministers, Provincial Governors, Chief Ministers, Heads of Diplomatic Missions, Members of Parliament, Provincial Councillors, Pradeshiya Sabha Members, Trade Unionists and the people of Attanagalla paid their tributes. 

Among the participants were: Prime Minister Ratnasiri Wickramanayake, Speaker K. B. Ratnayake, Samurdhi, Youth Affairs and Sports Minister S.B.Dissanayake, Provincial Council and Local Government Minister Alavi Mowlana, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Jeyaraj Fernandopulle, Civil Aviation Minister Reggie Ranatunga, SLMC Co-leader Rauff Hakeem and Secretary to the President K. Balapatabendi.
