Claymore mine kills nine soldiers
[28 September 2000]

Nine soldiers were killed and another was wounded in a claymore mine recently in Omanthai north, Vavuniya when their tractor was blasted on Tuesday night.

The tractor was carrying supplies from the Omanthai army camp to the security forces at the forward defence lines when it was caught in the blast.

Last week another 24 security forces personnel including two officers were killed by the LTTE when their vehicle was caught in a powerful mine at Vigamvehera on the Anuradhapura-Trincomalee highway.

The LTTE has killed hundreds of security force personnel and innocent civilians in the island during the past few years, by brainwashing their Tiger cadres to fight for their so called “right” to a separate homeland in the country.
