Presidential scholarship to Olympic bronze medallist Susanthika

President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunge has offered a scholarship to Susanthika Jayasinghe, the Olympic bronze medallist, to enable her to train herself in a country of her choice. The scholarship will cover all the expenses of her training programme, including the costs training, travelling and accomodation.

President's Secretary has informed Susanthika that the President is willing to offer any kind of assistance to her in enhancing her talents to achieve greater success in the future. The President's congratulatory letter stated, that Susanthika's success has not only brought pride for the country and the nation but to the entire Asian Region. President has also stated that she is proud not only as a Sri Lankan but as a woman, for she is the first Sri Lankan woman to win an Olympic medal.

Meanwhile, the Public Trustee Department Inaugurated the "Susanthika Jayasinghe Diriya Diyaniya Trust" yesterday, to assist the Olympic bronze medallist winner Susanthika Jayasinghe in her sports activities, and the family members. The trust will also assist All Sri Lankan Athletes who need help in their sports activities. The Justice, Constitutional Affairs, Ethnic Affairs and National Integration Minister and Deputy Finance Minister Professor G L Peiris inaugurated the fund by contributing Rs. 250,000 to this trust from the Public Trustee fund.
