President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga left the country early last Saturday morning for a couple of days to London, Government officials said. The President will return in time for the elections, said a news release from the Presidential Secretariat. Before her departure to London, she addressed the nation and warned her party members of tough disciplinary action if they resorted to election violence. Until President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunge returns from medical treatment, Her Excellency had appointed Minster of Justice, Constitutional Affairs National Integration and Deputy Finance Minister, G.L Pieris as the acting Finance Minister. Also Minister of Power and Irrigation and Deputy Minister of Defence, General Anuruddha Ratwatte as the acting Defence Minister of Sri Lanka.
