Ranil gets the fullest co operation from LTTE
[03 October 2000]

LTTE leader Velupillai Prabhakaran has instructed all Tiger leaders in the Eastern Province to make special arrangements to provide security to UNP leader Ranil Wickramasingha, a local newspaper reported.

The sources revealed that an LTTE leader named Ramesh had held a secret meeting to disscuss about these security arrangements on 01 October.

UNP leader will hold his election campaign rallies in Pottuvil, Ampara and Batticaloa areas tomorrow. The report highlighted the fact that in the previous Presidential Election UNP leader was able to secure the most number of votes from these highly Tamil populated areas, which are under the threats of LTTE.

Further the newspaper accused UNP for co operating with LTTE during the previous Presidential Elections too.  And the newspaper reported that at that time UNP leader was able to tour in Eastern Province without any hindrence by the LTTE.

During the course of time, LTTE has repeatedly proven that they are not willing to negociate with any Sri Lankan leader or political party. Their attempt to assasinate President Chandrika Kumarathunga during the previous Presidential Election rally explains their ulterior motives, crystal clearly, sources reported.

Despite the challenges of the leading political parties to UNP leader to condemn LTTE’s terrorism, Ranil Wickramasingha has never made a public announcement denouncing the brutal terrorist activities of LTTE.
