The Court of Appeal order on the objections raised by the lawyers appearing in the National Unity Alliance, Batticaloa, nomination list will be delivered on Monday. The petition was filed by the member of TELO, seeking a decision of returning officer to in accepting the NUA nomination list. The NUA General Secretary Rauf Hakeem challenged the petitioner on ground that petitioner was without locus standi in that the objections were raised by the UNP but not the petitioner. The President's Council also stated that the petition was submitted after the commencement of the postal voting. M L M Hisbullah, an NUA candidate told court "Unlike in the past the present parliamentary election act does not require the presence of the candidate who can be represented by the party secretary on nomination day. Therefore it is unfair to invalidate an entire list due to a lacuna in law." The petitioner, Nithyanandan Indrakumar claimed that NUA candidate Chelliah Rajadurai and Sivaganam Akileswaran could not have signed the nomination lists due to their absence on the day of nomination. On the nomination day, Chelliah Rajadurai was domiciled in Malaysia and Sivaganam Akileswaran an inmate of the Kandy remand jail. Thus he sought a writ to quash the nomination list.
