Hi-tech detector to condemn forged ballots

The Department of Election has imported hi-tech equipment from France, which serves as a detector of forged ballots, sources revealed.

A secret mark in the ballot paper will ensure the authenticity of the ballot paper. The equipment would be installed at counting centres. Furthermore the Election Chief would brief the way to handle the hi-tech equipment to all the senior presiding officers.

Newspaper reports stated that when the Court of Appeal summoned the Elections Chief on a petition filed by the UNP, he was totally confident of his ability to hold a free and fair election. 

There will be 9,947 polling stations and 809 counting centres. The number of registered voters for the upcoming parliamentary elections are 12,071,062. There are 29 registered political parties and 99 independent groups contesting and the total number of candidates are 5,038. Thus, there are 417 lists of nominations.
