COPSITU [Confederation of Public Service Independent Trade Union] requested the relevant authorities to provide adequate security to election staff before, during and after elections to safeguard them. The COPSITU was requesting the relevant authorities, with the aim to eliminate harassment and intimidation threats against public servants on election duty, during the forthcoming general elections. They also requested the relevant authorities to provide adequate transport for the officers who are on duty to report to polling stations and also in returning to their homes after duties. The COPSITU officials told a news conference yesterday, that they have informed the President through a letter, requesting to provide equate security to the Public Servants who are on election duty. The organisation reminded of the incidents where officials were intimidated and claimed that no trade union stood against these incidents.
