On October 7 at Periyavilam a civilian was injured in an anti personnel mine explosion whilst collecting firewood around 4.30 pm. Terrorist landmines are disrupting the lives of civilians in the north-east of the country and many including innocent, young children lose limbs and most often their lives through these anti personnel mines. On October 8 troops on operation recovered in Nagarkovil one LMG weapon and four T56 weapons left behind by the terrorists. On the same day, during daytime terrorists fired at troops in Nagarkovil, Sarasalai and Ayanakai. Terrorist mortars were neutralised by retaliating troops. One soldier was killed and four soldiers suffered injuries due to terrorist mortar fire.
