The Government declared October 13 and 14 as national mourning days for former Prime Minister Sirimavo Bandaranaike and announced that the state funeral will take place on Saturday including a 19 gun salute and full military honours at Horagolla. Prime Minister Ratnasiri Wickremanayake in a press conference said yesterday that the remains would lie-in-state at the Rosmead Place residence till 11am on the 12th Thursday. The body will remain at Parliament from 11.20am to 2 pm on the same day before being taken to Horagolla, he said. He requested the people to raise white flags in front of their houses as a mark of respect to the late premier. Liquor shops, slaughter houses and cinema halls throughout the country will also be closed. The government also announced that the national flag would be flown at half mast on all state institutions from today. Ms. Bandaranaike would be buried beside her husband as per her last wishes.
