Foreign leaders to take part in state funeral for Sirimavo Bandaranaike

A number of leaders from South Asia and other countries will take part in the state funeral for former Prime Minister, Sirimavo Banadaranaike who passed away on October 10.

The dignitaries would arrive by Friday for the state funeral, which is to be held on Saturday at Horagolla, which is 17 miles from Colombo and is the original residence of the Bandaranaikes.

Sirimavo Bandaranaike became the world’s first woman Prime Minister in 1960 and continued to stay in local and international politics for over four decades.

Her death occurred on the 60^th anniversary of her marriage to former Prime Minister S W R D Banadaranaike. She will be laid to rest at the Horagolla Samadhi.
