Nation bids farewell to former Prime Minister

The state funeral of former Prime Minister Sirimavo Bandaranaike will be held at 2.30 p.m. today at Horagolla.

 

Her body will be laid to rest along with that of her late husband, former Prime Minister S.W.R.D. Bandaranaike at the Horagolla Samadhi.

The armed forces will line the funeral route, fire a 19-gun salute while the remains are being taken to the funeral site in keeping with full state honours to be accorded to her.

The government directed the national flag to be flown at half-mast while Friday and Saturday were declared days of national mourning.
