Sri Lanka and India have very close ties says Indian Vice President

The Indian Vice President in discussion with President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga after the funeral of late Prime Minister Sirimavo Bandaranaike on Saturday, recalled the traditional ties between Sri Lanka and India, which have been very close and friendly over the centuries.

Vice President, Shri Krishnan Khant recalled in particular the links between the leadership of the two countries and made special mention of the fact that the late S W R D Bandaranaike had attended the Asian Regional Conference which had been inaugurated by Mahatma Gandhi himself in 1947 before India’s independence.

Khant was especially happy with the vision of social unity, which President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga has been working for. He linked India’s independence struggle with the initiative s being taken for social cohesion in Sri Lanka.
