Eight resign from Sihala Urumaya [SU] after party’s Central Committee meeting. The meeting was held to decide on the national list nominee. The party’s general secretary Tilak Karunaratne’s name was suggested as SU representative in parliament. Sihala Urumaya came to being just before the 11 Parliamentary Election. In their election manifesto they focus mainly on protecting the integrity of the country, having a strong economic system, facilitating agriculture and encourage local businessmen in the development of industries. The party’s existence is now in a pathetic situation as the members are highly concerned about their own benefits. Party President S.L Gunasekara, Dr.Piyasena Dissanayake, Herman Malinga Guneratne, Dr. Ranjani Ratnapala, Colonel Anil Amarasekara, Major General Tilak Paranagama, Prof.A.V.D.S Indraratne and Gamini Perera were among those who forwarded their resignation yesterday. Though the party considered the possibility to give equal opportunities to all members to represent the party in rotation in the parliament, the effort was fruitless.
