Mrs. Sirimavo Bandaranaike gives sight for two

The world's first woman Prime Minister, Sri Lanka’s elder Stateswoman Sirimavo Bandaranaike who passed away last October 10, due to a heart attack, had signed papers in 1972, to donate her eyes to the Sri Lankan Eye Donation Society.

The donated eyes were transplanted to two blind men and their sight was restored, Doctors at Colombo Eye Hospital said.  The two blind men were at the age of 32 and 70.  The corneas of Mrs Bandaranaike were removed within hours of her death and transplanted within a day, the officials said.
