Sitting for the first time after the October 10 General Election yesterday, the Parliament approved the proclamation issued by the President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunge, extending the state of emergency by one more month in the whole island by 113 votes in favour and 19 against. The UNP retained from the vote. The 10 JVP MPs, the five TULF MPs and four TELO MPs voted against the motion.
