The newly appointed 42 Cabinet Ministers of the Peoples Alliance government were sworn in by President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunge at the President’ House yesterday morning. President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunge has retained the Ministries of Defence and Finance while the Ministry of Plantation Industries has been retained by Prime Minister, Ratnasiri Wickramanayke. Ministers Lakshman Kadirgamar (Foreign Affairs), General Anuruddha Ratwatte (Power and Energy), Mahinda Rajapaksha (Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Development), Arumugam Thondaman (Livestock Development), Mahinda Wijesekera (Forestry and Environment), and Maithreepala Sirisena (Mahaweli Development) have retained their former portfolios. There are several new faces in the eleventh Cabinet while eleven Deputy Ministers of the previous government have been elevated to Cabinet rank.
