The President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunge in a statement on behalf of the people's alliance paid tributed to the voters on PA's victory. President stated in her message as "There are three clear messages that voters have given us. The firs is that the policy and the vision of the government which we implemented during the last six years during in relation to the execution of the war, economic development, political freedom, the reinstatement of basic human rights, democracy and foreign policy. This also mean that the voters have endorsed the continuatioin of these policies." "Secondly, people have given us the fullest cooperation for the total eradication of terrorism and the provision of a political solution for the ethnic crisis. Thisrdly, the current fraudulary electoral systemshould be ammended." President stated her message that the citizens of this country have given hera mandate to form a government at the October 10th parliamentary poll. The President said" I express my gratitude those who have helped to conduct a free and fair election by taking directions from me in that direction, which was divoid of corruption." She further stated that she provided fullest freedom to the Election Commissioner to conduct a free and fair election. In the districts where corruption had occured , ballot papers which were in that district were invalidated. The President said that even in those districts PA was able to win power. President Kumaratunge stated in her message that she will not forgive the individuals who have been involved and encouraged these mallicious acts. Finally she thanked the Elections Commissioner of conducting the polls sucessfully. President stated, "I also thank the Elections Commissioner for conducting these poll successfully. I also thank all the Government Officers, members of the Armed Forces and Police who acted with responsibility and more so the media which played and integral role in this election." President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunge further stated, "I exhortall Sri Lankans to rally round us for the creation of peacful and prosperous nation where all communities, irrespective of their ethnicitycould live in amity following the sucessful; culmination of the terrorist haulacost and the creation of ethnic harmony."
