The Ministerial Security Division (MSD), following the recent suicide bomb attack near the Town Hall, re-emphasised the importance of providing tight security to all the ministers. The intelligence sources highlighted the fact that LTTE suicide bombers who have infiltrated Colombo city may target the Ministers at every possible occasion. The Prime Minister Rathnasiri Wickramanayake also said that the Ministers who have already received death threats from the separatists should strictly adhere to the security guidelines provided to them. The sources revealed that the security personnel of such Ministers are being trained under a special training programme. However, LTTE‘s lust for power has ruthlessly destroyed too many innocent lives, both Sinhala and Tamil, during the last seventeen years. And their newest trend is to targeting the mainstream politicians whom they will suppose to be threats to them in future. The former Minister of Industries, late C.V. Gunerathne, late Mr. Baithulla and Neilan Thiruchelvam became the victims of this vicious circle. LTTE’s main objective is to paralyse the government activities; in order to do so they victimise the ministers who are considered to be the backbone of the government.
