The People’s Alliance (PA) has held meetings with the United National Party (UNP) in order to reach consensus on matters of national importance, Prime Minister Ratnasiri Wickremanayake said last afternoon. Prime Minister Wickremanayake who called on the Mahanayake Thera Ven.Udugama Sri Ratnapala Buddharakitha of the Asgiriya Maha Vihare said that an understanding between the two principal political parties – the UNP and the PA was necessary for building the nation. “ We are really going for a new political culture in this country. We will give priority to the development of the country above all other differences,” he said. Speaking to the media, Prime Minister Wickremanayake said that terrorism should be wiped out. “ There should be no mercy given to terrorism. Terrorists have no mercy on human lives, be it a MP or minister,” he added.
