Karu appointed UNP Deputy Leader
 [24 October 2000]

The UNP Executive Committee yesterday named party chairman Karu Jayasuriya as the Deputy Leader of the UNP.

General Secretary Gamini Athukorale was named as the Assistant Deputy Leader.

The Committee also decided to amend the party constitution in order to make the two positions of the party Chairman and General Secretary to be held by non contesting members in the future.
