Election Secretariat busy due to local council elections early next year

The local council elections are due to be held early next year, sources reported.

The present term of the 308 local councils in the country will end on March 19 next year. They include 14 Municipal Councils, 37 Urban Councils and 257 Pradesheeya Sabhas.

The Elections Secretariat has taken the initial steps to conduct the elections on a countrywide basis barring security impediments in certain parts in the Northern and Eastern Provinces, sources revealed.
