President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga greatly condemns the incident that took place during the early hours of today, at bindunuwewa detainee camp killing several detainees and injuring a number of others in the camp. This detainee camp which was administered by the National Youth Council was started under the Disaster Management Unit of the Presidential Task Force. Under the President's instructions the detainees in the camp were undergoing special rehabilitation training when the incident took place unexpectedly. Two committees comprising of senior officials have been appointed to investigate into the incident and report directly to the President. After a full investigation those found guilty would be brought to justice under special orders given by the President sources revealed. Funeral arrangements of those dead would be borne by the government, the President extends her deepest sympathy to the families of those killed and injured.
