The Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) expressed its willingness to unconditionally support the PA government in order to prevent the government being held ransom by the SLMC and the NUA combine, sources revealed. JVP sources stated that they were ready to support the government to ensure a majority on proposals even if the government did not have the support of the SLMC/NUA. The PA, JVP and the EPDP together would have 116 seats in the 225-member parliament even if the 5 SLMC MPs who came to parliament on the PA ticket and NUA’s 6 MPs were discounted.
