With Parliament inaugurating on November 9, the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) demanded the government to call an immediate parliamentary session to discuss the prevailing situation in the country. In the aftermath of the Bindunuwewa incident and violence in the hill country, sources said. JVP propaganda Secretary, Wimal Weerawansa stated yesterday that the situation could turn in favour of the separatists and as in 1983, communal riots could take place. “Weerawansa accused the small communal based political parties, specifically the Upcountry People’s Front and the Eelam People’s Democratic Party of provoking the Tamils in Nuwara Eliya and Trincomalee to attack Sinhalese people,” local newspapers reported.
