Sixty police officers in duty during Bindunuwewa incident were interdicted by the Government while the Upcountry People's Front (UPF) President and UNP MP P. Chandrasekeran was taken in for questioning yesterday morning by the Police for orchestrating demonstrators in the plantation areas of the Nuwara Eliya district. He was alleged to have provoked the Tamils to attack buildings, vehicles and setting fire to the railway station in Talawakelle causing tension in the plantation areas as the government authorities clamped down a curfew for the second day. Curfew was imposed in the Hatton and Nuwara Eliya Police Divisions from 3 p.m. yesterday to 6 am this morning. According to police reports, one person was killed and several others injured in Sunday's clashes. Meanwhile, a special Police team had been sent to Talawakelle to take immediate action against trouble makers in the area. Security has been tightened in the Badulla by the army and police. No major incidents have been reported as police mobile services are operating around Badulla round the clock. According to the Police, the situation has returned to normal except for sporadic incidents in Lindula and Patana.
