Senior DIG directs to bring the situation under control in Nuwara Eliya
 [31 October 2000]

On the direction from President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunge, Acting Inspector General of Police sent Senior DIG Lionel Karunasena to Nuwara Eliya district to curb the situation down.

Police sources imposed curfew yesterday from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. today as minor incidents of violence continued in plantation areas of Nuwara Eliya district. 

Additional armed Policemen associated by Army and Air Force personnel were deployed and mobile patrol were activated in trouble torn areas. 

According to sources, situation is under control now.
